George Mason V of Lexington of Gunston Hall Plantation, Virginia, Member of the Gunstonians ~

George Mason V of Lexington was an educated, well traveled, and interesting man of his time. He was born in Virginia in 1753 and made his home there until he died in 1796.  He was the son of George Mason IV (the author of the Virginia Bill of Rights) and Ann Eilbeck.  George V was married to Elizabeth Mary Ann Barnes Hooe of Barnesfield of King George County, Virginia, and they had six children. He was a Virginia gentleman who was given Lexington plantation by his father where he and his family eventually made their home. He suffered through various health issues after contracting a rheumatic condition yet still served his country as a patriot.

Lieutenant Colonel Tench Tilghman, Aide-de-Camp to
General Washington ~


Lieutenant Colonel Tench Tilghman is best known for his role in history as an aide-de camp to General George Washington. He was a highly educated and respected man of a prominent family. Born in Fausley, Maryland in 1744 to lawyer James Tilghman, he passed away 1786 in Baltimore, Maryland at only 42 years of age. He was privately educated and eventually graduated from the College and Academy of Pennsylvania in 1761. He was a businessman, facilitator, lawyer, and later commissioned to serve his country as the military secretary and an aide to the General. Washington said of him, a "zealous servant and slave to the public, and faithful assistant to me for nearly five years." Tilghman was a driven, loyal, and dedicated public servant and patriot to our country.
